Today I installed windows XP on a computer but windows will not let me log on until windows is activated.

The 2 options are online and on the phone.

1st I selected Online, but the computer wouldn't activate,

Then I called up Microsoft and the answering machine transferred me into support, then the fuckhead hanged up on me!

What do I do?

Yeah I would assume they won't activate it any more since it's so old, but who knows

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

You should look into running Linux + Wine.  It's possible that your app is supported.

Other than that, you may be able to download a VM of XP somewhere and use that.  Any app old enough to need XP will probably run fine in a VM on modern hardware.

I have NEVER seen anything that gets fixed by using "Compatibility Mode"

OK TY, I'll try vine!

The problem with the VM is that I will have the same problem with not being able to activate windows, meaning I cannot log on so it is useless.

Better try to call back

But windows xp went out of support so I'm not sure if you can even still activate it (not certain about this statement)

The next guy didn't hang up.

He tried to help, but it didn't work!

If you find one that is activated already it shouldn't matter.  I had an OEM copy of XP on a machine of mine a long time ago, and I always created VMs of it on it to use on it.  I got a new machine and couldn't install that XP in a VM on the new machine, but I could install it on the old machine and then move the VM, and XP continued to work :D

2 months ago I formatted 8 computers HDD's that had XP installed on them.

I think I may still have 1 computer that has XP installed, but it is IDE!

I'm not sure if that will help... you might be able to read the disk image and make a VM disk image out of it, but I just meant that if I installed XP on a machine that was allowed (which would no longer work) it could be moved to an invalid machine and would still run.  So if you can find a VM of an activated XP install somewhere it should still work on your machine.

How many things have you tried? 1? I've fixed numerous problems using it, its my go to attempt at fixing problematic software.

Lots, more than 10 different things.

what type of computer was this? a computer that had windows xp already instaled and you just wiped the hard drive to get a clean install?
