Unless your router is absolute garbage or your internet is over 100Mb per second you won't see a benefit, as I have a 7 year old router that still performs at 12ping and 50Mbps your isp is likely the problem

Your max internet speed is all depending on your package form your isp.

If you are paying for 25mbs up and down and are getting less than that with your current router, you may want to consider buying a new one.

In the country where I live, we have fast internet so when someone has a bad connection or bad wifi or ethernet it's almost definitely the router.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

the reason i upgraded my router was because my old modem died, and the new modems didnt support my 12 year old package anymore, so we got an upgrade to a new package, getting a boost from 30d/3u to 200d/12u.

as a result out potato-link (TP-Link) routers that cap out at 50Mbit over cable didnt suffice anymore...

EDIT: should add that this didnt change anything ping or connection stability wise.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, I'm laughing so hard right now LOL. :)

My router is 802.11a/b/g/n/ac dual band wifi with the modem that the isp provided. The router supports up to 4 Gigabit ethernet cables plugged in at once. I use Gigabit ethernet.

To make your internet faster, you don't have to upgrade the router. Ask your ISP for an upgrade instead, unless your router is very bad.

Upgrading your router "can" make your connection better though. If you have like router with 802.11g standard then you should get an upgrade to either 802.11n or 802.11ac standard, 802.11n and 802.11ac can run 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency, only 802.11ac can run 2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously. Going to 5GHz can help you get less interference as 2.4GHz frequency has more interference which can cause performance issue.
