Using RFID the same way as NFC

Straight to the point.

I've got a NFC tag few months ago and I've programmed it to unlock my phone whenever they both come in contact, so typically I kept the tag inside my wallet.

 

But quickly enough I've realised how annoying it is to take my wallet out whenever I want to check e-mails or facebook messages, so I thought about finding another solution..

Solution that would keep my phone secure as long as it's in my possession (ergo, in my range), but NFC lacks the neccessary range so I've had to look for something else.

 

Then I found RFID but I'm completely clueless whether it'll work the way I want it to work (the way NFC worked but with more range).

Which is - blocking my phone (via PIN or any other means) whenever it's out of RFIDs tag range, one that is located in my wallet.

 

So I was wondering - will it work the same was NFC worked? Is it as programmable as NFC? Are there any apps I could use for this certain thing?

The point isn't to unlock a phone - the point is to have it locked when I lose it.

I'm really looking more into using RFID - but googling 'using RFID for phone security' returns just places where I can RFID security cards for my employees.

The point isn't to unlock a phone - the point is to have it locked when I lose it.

If it's an Android you can lock the phone (secure lock), find the phone if gps is on and make it ring from Google device manager on a PC
