iPhone 5s problems..

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Yes, as a matter of fact, I got the screen off eBay and was supposed to be new, but it had grubby finger prints on the back, and the connector for the screen was bent, and I had to bend it back to get it to work.

That might be your issue especially if it wasn't a new part or one possibly salvaged from damaged phones. Places like iFix it do have parts while a bit more pricey atleast give a bit more of a reassurance that the parts are genuine or from a good third party supplier.

Okay so about a week ago I over volted my brand new battery in my iPhone 5s, which caused it to heat up and give my LCD heat damage. After replacing it, my screen works, but I'm still getting vertical grey lines. What is even more weird is that the area where you plug in the connectors for the front facing camera, digitizer, and LCD on the Logic board is heating up like mad when I turn the phone on.

My main question is, could I have shorted something when I over-volted my battery?

Define overvolt first, overvolting or shorting a li-po battery is extremely dangerous and usually ends in the battery exploding.

Well basically, I used a Samsung USB adapter and a shitty cable (Samsung charger is 5.3 volt @ 2 amps and the iPhone is designed to take 5v @ 1 amp)

The battery is completely fine, no swelling or signs of it being damaged.

That shouldn't be an issue I've used samsung chargers on iPhones before, it outputs ~5V when under load and the amperage that is taken is controlled by the charge circuity on the phone itself so it regulates how many amps it takes in.

As for the screen are the gold plated contacts on the board and ribbon cable damaged at all, it could possibly be shorting something and causing stuff to heat up.

That might be your issue especially if it wasn't a new part or one possibly salvaged from damaged phones. Places like iFix it do have parts while a bit more pricey atleast give a bit more of a reassurance that the parts are genuine or from a good third party supplier.

Alright, thanks a lot.

I'm going to return this screen and try again with a proper one. Wish me luck!
