Also the manual
[edit - this link with get you to their page with the product manual and firmware]

ftp://support.dlink.co.in/broadband/DSL-2730U/

In the box it came in there's usually two cables - a power cable and a rj-11 cable, sometimes they also have an rj-45 included.

The RJ-11 is an oldish phoneline cable see here:
http://www.tech-faq.com/rj-11.html

if it didn't come with a cable like that in the box you probably need to call your ISP and get them to provide one

[ - 2nd edit - it looks like there entire ftp db is browsable - ftp://support.dlink.co.in/]

The problem is that my isp provides a direct connection via rj-45 male which connects fine to any one of my laptops. But the 2730u accepts only rj-11 as wan input. I believe one of the other rj-45 ports on the 2730u can be configured to be used as wan input. I just need to know the configuration. The product manual on dlink page doesn't help. Please help urgently ...

You got a AIO that only has an ADSL input but you get internet via ethernet on Metro-E? Sounds like you got the wrong device.

Sounds like your router has a Phone line in ? and you have a Ethernet wire  Provided from your Internet Provider. i think the correct thing to do is buy a new router that is made for Ethernet as i would imagine any sort of adapter is will bottleneck/ ruin the connection speed that you are getting.

I work for an ISP that provides internet directly through ethernet ports (we do apartment complexes, but that dosn't matter). In my experience on the call center (two years), as a call center supervisor (one year) and now as an engineer (one and a half years) I have never seen any residents getting their DSL modem/router combo units to work unless it has a dedicated ethernet WAN port. What is worse is that if you connect your ethernet to one of the LAN ports without changing it's settings, you will be providing IP addresses to the rest of the network. We have measures to automatically or manually detect and handle these cases, which we call "rogue routers". In our case your ethernet jack will be disabled, and you have to call us to have it re-enabled.

Our company policy is that either you call Dlink for assistance with the setting you desire, or figure it out on your own, or get a normal router. Even as a random dude on the internet that's trying to be helpful, that's pretty much my advice. A call to Dlink should tell you pretty quickly whether or not the device is capable of being set to an ethernet WAN mode.

I assume you mean that the WAN connection/wall output is an RJ-45 socket or cable?

In that case you probably need something like this:

http://us.dlink.com/products/access-points-range-extenders-and-bridges/wireless-n-range-extender/

That is a range extender. The OP needs a SoHo/AIO that has an Ethernet WAN port. I don't think a range extender would help.

(anyone know how to hide/resize pic's ?)

If the one you have supports bridge mode then you should still be able to power it up and plug your pc in with rj-45 and use step four (below) to set it up as a bridge/range extender.

If the OP were to use a range extender, it would bond to someone else's wireless network and create a loop between the wireless and wired. That's a big no-no in the "internet provided by RJ45" ISP market - we will find and shut that RJ45 port down when it creates network issues. The OP needs an AP or a router, not a range extender.

My bad, i misunderstood the issue.

I was working off the product description: "Simply create a new Wireless N network by connecting the DAP-1360 to your router... ".

Also assuming that if the wall outlet went straight into the laptop via lan ethernet without an interface that the network was already established w/o wifi.
