Oh no

I have a computer...

With a BTX motherboard

;-;

What's the advantage of these things besides the fact that they'll profit when I need to upgrade?

How can I use this to my advantage whilst I have it?

The thing is huge, and while old, surely i can put some aftermarket stuff in here to make it alot better

Shipping sucks

Not really.

Let's just examine something, as a point of reference. Back, not even 9 years ago, but back in 2009, so, 6 years ago, there was a top end gpu called the GTX 8800. Today, that gpu is less powerful than intel dedicated graphics on the i3.

so, assuming something is from 2006, 50% longer, you can in the rest, right?

It might be able to do super basic web things, or you might be able to hook it up and use it as a temp home server for media. But it will not excel at either of those things, it will only barely manage to cope with today's file sizes, codex's, and performance requirements.

BTX... Back in those days, huh? :D I'd just get the good parts out of the case and trash the case. It was originally meant to guarantee better airflow whilsg being quieter, but that was in the time when dual-core CPUs were the best things on the market. It was meant to have better airflow than the normal ATX format with only two case fans.

lmao, I can put a 2.5Mhz (or Ghz, i forgot the standard for processors) Q6600 in there, I can put 8gb of ram, as well as a 750Ti.

While the challenge of finding a new psu with a btx form factor makes me want to hurt myself, I can change this into a fully functional machine that I can play some single player games perfectly on (albeit not on ultra settings, duh xD) as well as super fast when it comes to just browsing the web. Don't underestimate my board

If you can fit a standard motherboard in there, then awesome. My experience has been pretty negative trying to turn old prefabs into stuff.

So basically, you're not leaving anything in there, taking out everything but the hard drives? That's not really revamping an old machine, that's just using an old case and some old hard drives...

I suppose, but the motherboard will hold all of it back. It's not like I'm able to SLI Titan X's with a 4960x processor and have the easy route choosing a 1000v psu
