why do you have to use a mac os to get your work done?

So I want to develop apps in swift

AFAIK Swift is a language for developing Mac/iOS apps

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

Building a Hackintosh is not easy. I've tried several times. You need to spend a lot money on hardware that isn't ideal to get an OSX machine running. Just save the trouble with drivers and all that jazz and just buy a MacBook or whatever you need to code on.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Interestingly I find it the opposite.  Building a hackintosh is easy.  I have built one and it doubles as my gaming rig (I dual boot with Windows 10).  That said, the advantage of a Mac, is that OS X will work without any faffing about.  The disadvantage is they are expensive when compared with similar spec PCs and nowadays are not upgradable.

OP.  Always run OS X natively, performance is significantly degraded when virtualised.  My suggestion is to go for high end Haswell or Broadwell  - anything LGA 1150 for your CPU (Apple have yet to release Skylake hardware meaning you have to patch the OS Kernel to make it work).  Look at Gigabyte or Asus for the motherboard (they are known to work better with more stuff working natively), and look more at NVidia for your graphics (with NVidia you have the advantage that NVidia themselves release drivers that you can download instead of using the stock OS drivers, meaning most modern cards will work.  AMD cards are harder as you are limited to the same type that Apple put into their computers)

Look at http://www.rampagedev.com for information on how to get it all working.  You will need access either to a working hackintosh or a real Mac to create a bootable USB key.

Depends do you need OS X first for the gaming or the design, possibly not.

I would suggest an alternative via VMware

You run VMware and a copy of OSX you can get a copy off get into PC then download a fresh El Capitan copy off AppStore.

I suggest getting two copies just so you know it's 100% apple certified so to speak and there shouldn't be no issues.

Then install Xcode on the device and use that for swift

3D design and gaming may not work due to hw acceleration issues, so just use Windows for that plus more support for games

Does the App Store work with those VMs?  Apple introduced some measures with Yosemite that can prevent it working.  They also prevent it working in Hackintoshes that use a legacy bootloader rather than a UEFI one ie Chameleon or Chimera instead of Clover.  This may mean you won't be able to upgrade...  By using the method I used, using Rampage Dev's guide (or those on the Insanely Mac forum), I have everything working (except WiFi and Bluetooth as I have yet to install the card into my PC however my choice will work natively) hardware and software wise.

For 3D designing and games, I agree, stick with Windows (even if you end up buying a Mac... Use bootcamp).  It's been the platform of choice for these activities for many years with very good reasons why.

I personally think its important to consider how much time this will take: for me, my time is worth far more than the cost difference between a hackntosh and a macbook. If i have to fuss 5 hours over the lifetime due to hackitoshness (i think thats reasonable), its worth it to buy the mac equivalent. Time is money.

I have a 2019 macbook pro with 64gb of ram and my gaming pc has been in the closet since 2018
