I have two 3ghz core2duo machines and each one has two gt 8400s. Are these worth folding on at all?

As long as it's not going to cost you too much for power, everything is worth folding on. However I'm not sure how well those old graphics cards are supported anymore.

Sig under construction.

These cards aren't supported. And even the CPUs are pretty slow, by today's standards. I wouldn't recommend folding on those......

... with that said, it can still be used for Boinc. I'm yet to see a card that can't be used by PrimeGrid's PPS-Sieve subproject. And there are plenty of options for the CPU as well.

I would do Boinc, My dedicated Boinc system is an E8400 machine like one of those most likely and it actually does quite well. If you want to do folding then I would recommend the Chrome Client.

I have not done Boinc before. I should try it. Anyone have a lightweight OS to run on them?

Check the particular project you want to run, and see if they support Linux. If yes.... well, pick a distro of your preference. If not, stick to Windows. My E2180 (Pentium, 2ghz) does just fine with Win 10, so if you have 7 / 8.1 on those machines, you can just upgrade and be done with it.

Ah... how about you make a boot over ethernet? You can reserve part of a hard drive on your main PC for storing the files, if you want to do it the ghetto way.

If you want to pass by my house tomorrow, I have 2 120gb and 1 80gb HDs that I wouldn't mind parting with.  :D

If they can't complete the WU's fast enough before the deadline, they're a waste of electricity.

This is what I was worried about. Might throw one of the GPUs in my main system and try a WU before bothering with the rest of the machine/

You could run the Chrome Client on those two PC's at Med or even High and just crank out WU's. I do that on a few lower end units. Just ensure some decent cooling and you are away to the races.
