Hey Master Builders

I need help in designing a new rig used primarily for gaming.  I have been watching old mate Linus and reading other people’s post so I feel I can talk shop when it comes to a new rig but I have no confidence in designing one myself.  So down to business, my budget is around $1500 AUD but that is flexible if there are significant gains to be made for $1-200 more for example.  I play mostly games from the Sid Meier’s Civilisation, Total War, Fallout, X-COM, Borderlands and of course Goat Simulator ranges.

For peripherals I have a keyboard, mouse, dual monitors and headphones.  Keeping this in mind I also use my computer to watch a lot of movies so I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading my primary screen.  Currently I use an AOC 2434; thoughts?  Aesthetically a case with a more simple design without LED’s will make this much easier to sneak past my old lady, so mum’s the word guys.  Lastly I have a copy of Windows 7 I can install but I would like your advice on which OS you would recommend.

Cheers guys

*Extra Info:  I’m in Sydney Australia

You could go for a R9-380 instead if it's too expensive.

Wow, thank you so much for the responses guys I really appreciate it.

It has been pointed out to me recently that i'm a bit of a junkie when it comes to having a million programs open at once.  For example I will have 20+ tabs open in chrome with skype, spotify, 5 word documents, 3 pdf's and a game running at once.  So the question i'll put forward is this: is it worth me saving a little more and upgrade to an i7 cpu or will the i5-4690K be all the incredible value for money processing power I will need?

the speed of the cpu doesn't matter for lots of programs open

for that you want lots of ram

probably 16gb
