So i recently bought this card off the ebay when i got it it was dusty so i cleaned it and replaced the thermal paste.. however idle temp is around 65-70c with auto fan on.. when i manually set the fan to 70% it drops to around 45c which is still pretty high for idle temp.. did anyone had this problem before with this card or some other card ? how to solve it?

Card model is EN9800GT TOP/HTDP/512M

Welcome to the Forum.

This is a pretty old card. I have a feeling that 45C might not be unreasonable for an idle temp for it, but I'm not sure. You might want to try replacing the thermal paste again in the case that you used too much.

Sig under construction.

The problem is the heatspreader on the chip. Under it there is another layer of paste....  nvidias attempt at (planned obsolescence) as to remove it you need rework station

Perfectly normal temps for a 9800 GT.

I used to run dual 9800 GX2s. Current gen cards; even ol Thermi, have got nothing on those 110C monsters.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

I've heard that 9800gts and 8800gts ran really hot, but the 9800gt that I had actually ran pretty cool. Idle temps ranged from 35-40 depending on ambient temperatures and load temps were always below 70C. I didn't overclock because it simply didn't like temps over 70C.

This was the card that I had. My brother is actually still running this card in his system lol.

Edit: I do have a Antec 900 so everything runs cool in my case lol. I still have yet to find a case that has better cooling capabilities than it for under $100.
