Nvidia shadowplay question

Go to solution Solved by AnUnQuietMind,

Thx i didnt realize alt+z open share was where they hid the new preferances. thanks a ton!

Settings. Customize.

See above. Anything else I can help with?

So for those of you that use shadowplay you know that recently the geforce experience that has the shadowplay function to record gameplay or stream it was changed to "share",

I recently got a ROG swift monitor thats 1440p and want to record at that resolution but cant find a place to change the recording settings now that its been updated.

All the nvidia sites say shadowplay can record up to 1440p but the articles are around a year old. anyone know a fix for the newest version?

I don't know.  Honestly I think they ruined it.  You used to be able to pick resolution, bitrate, framerate, etc. and now it's like "Apple GameStream"

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

So, rather than just hitting the "Preferences" button, I have to go "Share" > "Record" > "Customize" ?  Are you freaking kidding me?  If they start making GPUs like they design interfaces AMD just might make a spectacular comeback...

Oh, and even when I click "Customize" nothing happens.  But thanks for pointing me to the option - never would have guessed I had to hit "record" when I have no intention of doing so just to change settings

It is a little clunkier. But it still works for me.

It's not just that it's more steps that I object to (though it is unnecessarily more steps), it's the fact that it's incredibly unintuitive, and the design they had before was already fine.

Even just having to hit "Share", when you may in fact have no desire to share and simply want to record

Not a problem. Mark answered if you could, please! :)

and I got my settings to open if you're wondering.  I had to start a recording and then stop it before it would work

If all you're doing is recording, try OBS. Complete customization, down to bitrate, encoder and audio quality.

Does that take advantage of the hardware encoder in nvidia GPUs for virtually no impact on fps?  Because if not, and it's just another one of those software recording programs, it's not going to be nearly as good.

And shadowplay does work, and as all the right settings - what are the main advantages of OBS?

Yes, OBS can use x264, Intel Quicksync, or nVidia NVENC for encoding. There's a custom addon for using AMD APU's in similar fashion to Quicksync too. I've used all 4 encoders and really only see a 5-15FPS drop in-game, depending more on the game than on the encoder. You can also customize audio quality. You can add capture sources as well or watermarks / logo's for custom work.

All the software is very simple to use and setup. And it's all clearly labeled for streaming to services like Twitch or youtube, or just simply recording - or doing both.

Check my system specs in signature, but it's a really light but powerful program & runs great on any hardware.

I've used it on APUs, AMD FX chips and i5s, pairded with Radeon 7xxx series & GTX 9xx cards.

Very worth a look.

Cool, good to know if I ever go AMD on a GPU :)
