For reference my build is as follows:

FX8320

Asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0

Gskill ripjaws X, 16GB

2x R9 290's

Corsair RM1000

Asus xonar 5.1 soundcard

1x HDD

2x SSD

8x fans

1x DDC pump

2x LED strips

I was previously overclocked to 4.7ghz(1.43v), and I was stable for about a year. (Temps are not the issue, I have AC so its actually colder inside in the summer than it is in winter for me) About a month ago I got some bluescreens and I resolved the issue by downclocking to 4.5ghz. However; now at the 4.5ghz (1.35v) level I get random shutdowns. Everything turns off completly and windows tries to safe-boot. Power is gone like I pulled the plug or shut the PSU off, instantly, no BSOD or similar. (I do not own a PSU tester, but as it boots and runs for a bit wouldn't the tester just say its working? I doubt a tester could pull 1000W to test)

This happens during light load scenarios. It hasn't happened to me while gaming, but it probably would. So far my shutdowns happened while in chrome and in steam.

I tried to dial back the clock again, but even at 4.2ghz this happens. I'm starting to think its my PSU as the RM series isn't the greatest and for a while I was overclocked to 1.43v on the CPU and +50% power limits on my R9's. My PSU is only a little over a year old, maybe 1.5yrs max.

thanks in advance.

TL;DR: computer shuts down during light loads, maybe my PSU is dieing?

Getting a new PSU after a year and a half isn't a bad thing. Probably the cheapest thing for you to replace. If you know a friend with an extra PSU, try it. If it doesn't satisfy the 2x R9 290s then remove them for testing. But if its turning off like a power cord removal, its most likely the PSU turning itself off to prevent damage. My father had this issue once.

you have 2 r9 290

and your Corsair PSU cant handle the load because it.s corsair

get a seasonic PSU and you will be ok .

even for example a 700 watt seasonic psu will be far better than your 1000 watt corsair

get a 750 watt seasonic

and next time you build a pc go with GIGABYTE  motherboard

Ok, thanks. Kind of what I was thinking.

It should be able to handle it, but I know about the RM series so thats why I thought it was the PSU. Seasonic or EVGA is definatly what I'm going for next.

As for Gigabyte mobo's, I had the distinct honor of owning a 990fx UDA 3, rev 3 which was a horrible board. The VRMs get too hot and require special cooling. Anyways I like the bios more on Asus boards anyways and will stick to them in the future.
