First Pc $800

Paytend01

I'd go with a WD Blue but that's entirely my preference of WD over Seagate.

How about an SSD? Can you squeeze the extra $50 in there?

Get a R9-380 instead. Also, get a dual channel RAM kit.

EDIT: R9-390, not 380. Mistype!

R9 390x 8GB > GTX 970

i might find a cheaper motherboard (as you are not OCing) and throw in a 120GB SSD

Should get a 390 for sure

you could get a cheaper motherboard since you won't be overclocking

and apparently NEX PSUs are crap, so avoid them

Also swap the hard drive for a WD Blue

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

why would you recommend a 380 instead of a 970?  the 380 is a little better than the 960.

for the "all-rounder" I would put the Xoen 1231V3 instead of the I5. it's basically an i7 without an iGPU, and it's about the same price as the 4690k.

R9 380 is $100 less than the 970

for this budget, its either the 390x + 4460 or the 4690k + 380

the latter build allows for an SSD

  1. cpu is good
  2. cooler is good
  3. mobo is too expensive
  4. get 2 sticks of ram to make use of dual channel memory bandwith
  5. hdd is good
  6. 970 is good but the r9 390 beats it
  7. case is fine, although the n200 is better imo in terms of looks
  8. psu needs to be changed

Is it me or is a lot of members here pro AMD or is AMD better/cost effective at the $200 to $300 price range for a GPU?

it's still not going to beat the Xeon even when heavily overclocked, except in single core performance. I personally would get the xeon as it already has good enough single core performance that very few if any games will have an issue with it.

it's true, which is why people recommend them. a 380>960, 390>970, when not taking overclocking into the equation. then they are about the same.
