I've been told that these 500 watt EVGA PSUs are sketchy. What should I use instead. Also, DO NOT tell me AMD sucks and give me an Intel build instead. I will immediately report your post.

While I would strongly recommend fitting an Intel CPU/board into the budget, you should go with something better than that EVGA unit. The 500B is okay unlike the normal 500W, but there's also better. The Antec HCG 520W is a little more expensive but also a fair bit better. There's also an XFX 550W on sale right now that is great.

AMD sucks!11!

joking, you could go with a Corsair PSU

At that price point, there's nothing Corsair makes that would be worthwhile. CX has a 30C temp rating which is unrealistic for most people.

What Intel would you say? I really need a quad core.

Actually - the Athlon X4 860K is superior to the Pentium G3258

The R9 380 is also superior to the GTX 960 by about 10-15%

Get an XFX TS 550W - 36$ atm

Athlon 860K > Pentium G3258 - i3 is a bit too much for that build I think as it puts him about 20$ over budget

I never said to go with a G3258, and I'm sure you could move some stuff around to get it within budget...

I guess it's possible but I'd much rather get a R9 380 for 5$ more than a 960 with that spare cash :P

Any ones

I like the PNY GTX 960 cooler design. I also need the CUDA for CS6.

I'm still not sure what PSU to get.

XFX TS 550W - more than enough. If CS6 supports OpenCL I'd strongly encourage you to go with a 380 since it has about 35% more stream processors compared to the cuda cores on the 960

EDIT: Photoshop CS6 right? OpenCL is supported

EVGA's power supplies are just fine for that rig. If you were building a $1000+ rig then maybe you'd want to consider upgrading your PSU, but in this scenario there's absolutely no reason not to go with EVGA.

Budget rigs are not an excuse for a cheap unreliable PSU when you can easily get an XFX TS for 36$ >.<

Do some research - stuff like Sony Vegas is a LOT faster on AMD. Check if OpenCL is supported

Sorry, I had no idea you could get an XFX TS for that cheap. This must be a deal, because I've never seen them that cheap before.

Also, EVGA's power supplies aren't unreliable..I've been a (well I wouldn't say die-hard) big fan of EVGA power supplies. I've used them in almost every build I've done, and they've consistently had great performance and reliability.

G2, B2, P2 and GS are fantastic quality - SeaSonic and Super Flower made

G1, B1 and NEX are by FSP or Compucase and are mediocre at best

W1 are terrible
