Usually you are ok with same speed, capacity and timings. Usually. Or timing as close as you can get. If you are getting different speed than what original was, remember that they will all run at speed of slowest stick.

Frequencies need to be the same, and the timings should be as close as possible to one another. For the longest time I was using two 4gb sticks of ADATA and two sticks of Hyper-X Fury.

 

Gotta say, it looked so much nicer once I installed the two new sticks of hyper-x Fury. Made my systems looks complete for the time being.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Frequencies, voltages etc. do not have to be the same. It just theoretically reduces the risk of incompatibility. But even two sticks of the exact same memory, not just same frequency and voltage etc. but same brand, may still not work together if you're unlucky.
