Is there any way to eliminate coil whine? If so a link or an explanation would be great. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately no, there is no way to really get rid of coil whine or prevent it. If it's one of those old fashion coils adding a potting material helps which manufacture's do for PSU's but even with that it can still sometimes occur.

Coil whine is somewhat the luck of the draw at times where some PSU or GPU's will whine or a combination of that specific PSU to that specific GPU can make it worst or better. If your experiencing GPU whine make sure your FPS isn't going to a crazy high value so adding a cap or enabling Vsync can help sometimes.

My fix is to put on headphones; if that isn't good enough I would back up the previous post saying to turn on vsync or framerate cap

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

if you use retarded/autistic/etc to mean stupid please gtfo

Not unless you want to dismantle you gpu and make your own custom inductor's with vibration dampening rubbers encasing them. AKA no reasonable way.

What is F@H?

Folding is where your CPU and GPU (in this case, you want GPU) to simulate proteins interacting with each other to research cures for various diseases.. Watch the video here. Basically, your GPU will be working as hard as it can to do math, and this will run the card quite hot, so make sure you have adequate airflow. It fixed my XFX HD 7950s, and my HD 6970 from asus.

Coils on cards now are usually covered (encased) so putting anything on them is usually a waste of time...

  • 1 month later...

Does it happen a lot whatever the kind of load?

My card only has coil whine when i run something like the ice storm benchmark, which goes up in the 1000s fps. Otherwise gamea etc are not affected?

Best you can do is run furmark for a few hours and aee if it stops.
