Since games will be optimized for eight core processors, will a 3770 and a 4770 (K versions included) compete?

Many games do not take advantage of hyperthreading very well or at all.

Hyper threading ins't used by many games

Company of heroes 2 is one the very few games that have been meticulously optimized for hyper threading.

The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

Well Intel is definitely screwed.

So many threads on this,

AMD core =/= Intel core

They are different in there instructions and architecture. You can not just base it on the number of cores and is completely pointless to do so.

If your concerned at all about wanting the best cpu performance (even though your only worry should be gpu) than wait for games to actually be released yet alone the console.

I think clock speed and superior architecture will be the biggest factors in game performance for a while to come.  Even if they did code games to take advantage of eight or more cores, that doesn't mean you would see any real gains vs a quad core.  This is a heavy diminishing return curve on the number of cores your CPU has.  And besides the games being made right now just aren't very CPU taxing to be honest.  Certainly not to the extreme that we see on the GPU side.

Very true. I do know that they do not equal in terms of cores. However i really wanted to raise awareness on this topic a bit further for the community and how it might affect the others.

I thought hyperthreading is done at the bios level and makes the system see the cpu as a "real" 8-core? why do games have to be optimized for hyperthreading in particular?

This.

Hope somebody can answer... Do games really need to be specifically optimized for hyperthreading? I thought it just gives a boost to multithreaded applications.
