The best card in that range is the R9 390X, without a doubt. It stomps the 970, which is the only nvidia card worth mentioning in that price range. The 980 is just above that range though, at around 450, and its marginally better than the 390X, but costs marginally more to boot.

Currently running an Asus 750Ti with an I5-3570 CPU. Would like to keep it in Invidia and a price range of $250 to $400. Any help is appreciated!

 

Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 if it has to be Nvidia, though I'd personally go with an MSI Gaming R9 390x, which is significantly stronger than any 970.

but make sure you got the latest BIOS for the mobo

How can i know that i have latest bios ?

you boot to the BIOS to see the version

 

upon startup press the Del key to get into BIOS
