Is my motherboard a dud?

So I have a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 (Rev 3.0) motherboard which is giving me endless grief when I try to get my RAM to work at its rated speeds. I have two kits of OCZ AMD Black Edition RAM, but whether I use all four or even just one or two sticks it refuses to run at 1600MHz. I even tried using the RAM from my APU build, a set of Crucial Ballistix Elite, and my machine flat out refuses to boot if I use its XMP profile. I have to leave everything on auto which results in it only running at 1333MHz.

 

Another problem I experienced is when I had the OCZ RAM inside; setting changes are ignored as you can see from the following BIOS screen dumps:

XMP is an Intel thing, AMD uses different profiles I believe. I don't really know the answer you're looking for though.

XMP is a memory thing it works on amd, I should know, I had an a10 with 2133mhz ram

On topic, it is because you are using high voltage ram (1.65v) on a board that supports only up to 1.5v. So the memory is incompatible with the board.

For example I use CCC and Gigabyte's tuning tool for OCing the 9370. However, when I go into the bios it says that it is still on stock.

Those programs don't change the bios.

Okay, so I had some 1.5v Mushkin memory lying around to test with. This time the BIOS accepted the profile, changed all the values & timings and even booted from it! Lê BIOS now reports the RAM is running at 1600MHz however CPU-Z and Windows still reports the RAM is running at 667MHz:

 

 

 

 

Is it running at 1600 or not? :unsure:

Tough to say. Cpu-z is reporting the ram running at 800 mhz, the specs for the ram seem to be 667 mhz. That is odd
