MSI European warranty.

Hemanse

So i took my MSI GTX 770 Lightning card back to the store a week ago, i wrote to MSI explaining the problem (faulty fans) and they said i should contact the store that i bought the card from, because MSI do not directly handle cases from customers. The store then contacts MSI europe, they tell the store to contact MSI in the UK, MSI UK then tells them to contact MSI Germany, MSI Germany then tells them to contact MSI Holland, MSI Holland then tells the store that they have no clue what the policy is

All of this because apparently MSI do not have a location in Denmark, yet on the MSI site there is no information when it comes to factory warranties in this region.

Im guessing its a lost cause and i should just bin the card even tho its only the fans that dont work anymore, i dont have the knowledge to change the fans myself and the store neither, just feels like a waste having to throw away a working card just because MSI use low quality fans.

According to the MSi website they offer a 12 month warranty in Europe: http://eu.msi.com/page/warranty

Also, this shouldn't be on you. Isn't it normally the store that handles these case?

However, if you are outside of the 12 months, and inside of 24 months from purchase, it is up to you to prove that the faulty fan was present at the time of your purchase, or the condition that caused the fan to be faulty was present at the time of purchase.

Get a custom cooler?

Have looked at a few, but all of them suggest that they only work with reference cards.

"Regional differences may apply. Please enquire with the original shops or our local offices. " This is what i get from the page, my card is just over 2 years old which is the standard warranty period we have here in Denmark, but when you look up for example MSI Netherlands they have a 3 year warranty. The fact that MSI do not have a department in this country that you can contact makes it rather hard to figure out anything :)

The regional differences only apply if you bought the card in country that differentiates in either MSi's own policy or the regions laws on warranty.

Since you bought the card in Denmark the Danish rules will apply.

Denmark follows the standard EU legislation on the subject of claiming faulty products.

You don't have a 2 year warranty. You only have a 2 year period where you can claim that your product is faulty.

Now, since you are consumer the first 6 months has an inverted burden of proof, effectivly making it a warranty, but by the letter of the law you don't have a legally founded warranty.

Those 770 Lightning fans look like they could be replaced with fans like these

You just need the right measurements and connector. Look around and see if you can find fans like that...

Alright thanks, i guess its just most stores here that have a 14 day return period and 24 month "warranty" period where you can get repairs if the product breaks by no fault of your own.

Thanks yeah, also might have someone that can help replace them, seems like its not as straight forward with the MSI fans gotta pretty much remove the entire shroud to take of the fans.

The fans are probably screwed to the heatsink. Hope you can get it working, Lightning cards are beautiful cards.

Best of luck ;)
