Is i3-4160 better than fx-6300 ?

A little bit, depends. i3 also allowed for a much wider upgrade path, as the AM3 socket is desd snd anything past the FX-8350 is not,worth it and truly will not bring much of a performance gain over an FX6 any way. For example, an i3 you can upgrade to an i7 with no hassle.
