CPU too hot?

I have posted a few times and received good advice and answers. So I have another.

 

I have my pc updated, went with a Radeon R9 280X with a 750W Ultra Modular PSU

 

So my CPU is now running what I believe to be too hot, as my PC has shut down a couple

times. Now with the temps given, is it more CPU related, or MOBO, or both?

 

Idle temps - 14C - 20C it fluctuates

Loading game - 30C - 35C after game loads

In Game (10mins) 66C and will rise to as high as 75C

 

Game off, back down to 14C - 20C           Processor - AMD FX 6300 2yrs old, never overcloked

 

Any ideas, and thank you for any response.

I don't think your CPU temps are the issue, if those are the temps that you posted. Those temps should be fine. It could be a different issue entirely.

 

Are you able to see anything that would cause it to shutdown through event viewer?

Those temperatures are not bad at all.

14c as an ambient temperature is not ridiculous -- rather it's a cool room on a Fall night. Furthermore, the temperature sensors on the FX line, and the AM3+ boards are not very good, and will often give inaccurate readings, so they're not to be trusted entirely.

 

Under a Prime95 stress test, my FX-6300 got as high as 77c and was fine. AMD CPUs have rather high temperature ceilings, so you should be safe in that regard, though your shutdowns are still an issue.

You only really have to worry once your CPU gets to around 90-95°C and over. Below that is pretty much okay.

My room is air conditioned, I'm using HWMonitor to see temps. I read where 61C for the FX6300 was the safe point, anything over was too high.

So I figured I would post here. Now I'm really confused, lol. I used up my budget, so I have a feeling I'm gonna be screwed somehow. Also how do

I check this event viewer? never done that before, and what should I be looking for? All the responses are appreciated.

The temps are fine. The issues might be related to you motherboard or power-supply

Check with AMD overdrive while you play in windowed mode... (thermal margin is good to be high cause that is how far it is from thermal throttle!)

Check when u changed the card u didn't knock the 24/28pin power connector loose

When i open my AMD Catalyst Control Center, and go to AMD overdrive, it is disabled. So this is my first time using an AMD Video Card, not sure how all that stuff works. Is there any kind of guide as to what I'm suppose to do when I enable it? And I still think the temps Im getting are too hot, I never had this much heat before. On a different post I made on here, people said my temps were too high, this was on a different post on a different issue. So people on this post say their fine. So who's right? lol

what app are you using to monitor temperatures?

what is the ambient (room temperature) temp?

66°-75° is what reading? socket, package, cores?

was it shutting down before the GPU update?

It could be that your casing airflow is not configured correctly, causing warm air circulating inside the case rather than dissipating it out.

The warmth might be caused from your Radeon R9 280X and how it spreads it heat in your casing. Also depending on where the sensor is placed, it might not really showing the cpu temp, but the system temp (overall temp).

 

The shutting down problem might not be coming from heat alone. Please check every PSU cable and ensure that all are plugged in snuggly. Since you have just tinkered with your build, some cables might came loose.
