Somewhat true. As long as you in no way promote your channel with like/dislike or subscribe or check out, you should be fine. AKA make it like it was a build log intended for just yourself. This also counts in terms of your description on the video - remove everything that might promote yourself there.

Is it against the forum rules to post links to build log video's I have been working on a build log for quite some time and have now made some video's for it but I read someone saying it is against the rules to post links as this is apparently self advertising.

 

Is this true guys? Or am I safe to post video link to my build log once the vids are uploaded.

That should be fine... 

 

If it is just a build log, and the thread is in Build Logs, then yes you can post them so long as you're not making the thread for the sole purpose of advertising something (promoting your YouTube channel or whatever)

might be worth making a separate channel not related to my regular use channel then?

the build logs are supposed to be a written form factor.

 

you can incorporate your video into a build log as a feature to show it off more, but it cant really be just a video link...

There's a dedicated subforum for build logs. I'd welcome a video of a build log. 

 

Posting your own content is not against the rules, but making a thread to say "hey guys, check out my channel and subscribe" is. 

I know at least 2 threads that got taken down, but this was from the "Members review" section - they did a written review, posted a video, and the thread got taken down for "advertising".

All it takes is one bellend to reck your thread, I'd be careful about promoting anything in any subtle way.

I got a reply from a mod, It's allowed as long as like you say you don't advertise your channel or products or try to make money out of it. etc.

It might not be like that in the build logs section, but oh trust me... hint the slightest bit to doing anything in a video, and all it will take is a guy who has had a bad day to take down the thread.. :(
