Hey guys, I'm building a PC for a friend and he wants to have some watercooling in his system but when I built mine I bought a pump + res combined so I don't know much about it, and there are only some pumps available on their site, which one would you recommend? I will post the pictures on the whole build, don't want to take all the screenshots all over again ..

These are the pumps available:

And this is the build, I've made some changes, new Motherboard, a GTX 980 Ti, DDR4 Ram and a cheaper PSU :)

So which pump should I go for? Thanks for your help! :D

I would go for the D5 vario or PWM version it's basically the gold standard in terms of watercooling pumps, also you have an EKWB DCP version already selected in your list.

Yes I just took something in the meantime, do you mean the Alphacool one? But don't you need to place it together with the reservoir? It would be better if it could just be placed on the bottom of the case! But if that isn't an option we will go for this one. it would be better if we could order everything from the same site! :)

Look at the answer above, is it the Alphacool one you are refering to?

That Alphacool ones only has barbs on it if you can get one that has a thread pump block that would be ideal to have a length of tubing go from the res above into the pump like this one from EKWB, it's the vario version which has a knob to control the pump speed:

The brand on the D5 pump doesn't make any difference they are all made by the same manufacturer and then EK/Alphacool/Swiftech ect ect just slap their own sticker on it. I'm assuming by placing them together your talking about the kits you can buy where you can combine the reservoir and pump into one, you don't need one of these but they sure look nice.

Edit: As W-L said their are different models on D5 pumps, so you'll need to pick the one that suits your needs/wants.

Yeah but what I meant was, do I have to put the res+pump together, or can I place the pump (for example) on top of the PSU and the res on the other side of the case, or do I have to put them together, since I can't see 2 holes for the water to get in/out.

I myself have a res+pump like yours, we have the exact same one but mine is smaller where the res and pump is combined, and also it would be best if I could get a pump on the site I posted a pic of, and these are the only pumps available, is there any pump on that picture that would be okay to use? :)

It's mainly a matter of choice if you want a combo unit to save space or looks but you can have them separate parts only thing is to have the pump lower than the res so it never runs dry and has a good supply of water. The pump has one inlet and one outlet on the alphacool one you listed but some pump tops has multiple inlets and outlets for convenience.

Yeah I know that you have to have the pump lower than the res! :D But if I have to pick one of those pumps, which one should I go for? :)

I appreciate the help man!

Out of all those the second Alphacool one VPP655T12 since it's speed adjustable, also you can always change the pump top later on if you decide it looks a bit out of place or want a different look:

Ah okay, but just to be sure, if I order that pump I don't have to buy anything else for it to work? I buy the pump, I buy the reservoir in the picture, I plug it in, and it's done?

Nothing much more, on the res end you would need a compression fitting for the tubing but on the pump side you would have to do what linus does and stretch the tubing over the larger barbs by heating the end of the tubing in boiling water and zip tying it.

Yeah of course :) Thanks a lot for the help I'll go for the D5 one then :) But there is something I don't get, I can only see one hole on the pump, shouldn't it have two?

Here this might show it better it has one in the center as an inlet and the top as outlet:

Omg I'm such a retard, I thought you meant the first one in the list, for some reason I thought that it was the second one on the list.. Now I know it's obviously just plugging it in and then it's done xD

Thanks man :)
