Hello!

I am looking for input into this rig that I am looking at building. I have always used PCs for gaming and Macs for Editing, but I am now using Adobe CC (Premiere) so I think it is time to build a decent Editing Rig, that can also play some of my favorite games (Cities Skylines, Batman series, Battlefront)

Here is a build I pieced together from other threads:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fQfs4D

I'd change the PSU for something like an EVGA G2/GS. The CX Series is designed for "basic system builds" not high end editing rigs like this.

inb4 someone links the CX series PSU video.

EDIT: Do you really need 32GB RAM?

  1. i would get skylake cpu. get the 6700k
  2. you need a better cpu cooling solution for the 6700k if you're going to overclock it. get the h100i gtx instead. the h60 is for the i5-4690k or the xeon 1231 v3 cpu
  3. i wouldn't get a gigabyte board for overclocking. it won't allow you to set adaptive mode for your cache ratio and vring. get asus, msi, or as rock
  4. 16 or 32gb would be fine. just go with what's in your budget
  5. i'd get a 2tb hdd instead from seagate
  6. get the r9 390 for gaming over the 970. get the 970 if you need cuda cores for your workstation use
  7. don't get the cx psu. get the SeaSonic SSR-550RM at 550w

what kind of monitor are you going to buy? do you want a gaming monitor or an editing monitor?

@ThinkWithPortals, that is a good question and one I am trying to figure out myself. My only reason for going with 32GB is for multiple apps (Premiere, Encoder, Chrome) running all at the same time. Plus, it would speed up render and output times.

However, buying 2x8GB would allow for easy upgrading!

That's what I'd suggest, just get 16GB (2x8) now and if you discover that you really need 32 than buy another 2x8 kit.
