Catalyst 15.7 is still a fail!

I looked up on AMDs page and they do not support 15.04 version of Ubuntu, but they do support 14.04 so I will send Penguin Recordings a tip about it tomorrow...

It's Source 2 with native openGL.

Don't think you will find many better openGL implementations that that.

 

Shame AMD has neglected openGL so badly though (not talking about this game).

Native as in they run natively on Linux without the need for WINE.

What I meant is that the old Source1 engine was designed originally for directX9, and later ported to openGL when Valve became interested in OSX and Linux.

CS 1.6 and the original HL1 are games from the 90s using a valve modified Quake engine known as the Goldsrc engine. Ya I remember at the time in Half Life 1 you could pick from a drop down menu either openGL or directX or software mode. But that engine probably had more code from John Carmack than anyone at Valve.

 

Then in the early 2000s then launched the new source engine for HL2 and CS; Source. This was directX 9 only. Years later they did port it to openGL. This is also the engine used in TF2, CS;GO, Portal series, Titanfall, Vampire Masquerades and Dota 2 (until now).

Yes that's the test i was referring to.

Nvidia drivers they are better than Windows on Linux I heard.

Nvidia proprietary drivers are the fastest available on Linux for gaming.

They may be fast but they are buggy and the Linux guys don't like Nvidia as a company so it's a funny relationship they have.

 

Some Linux guys are very ideological so many even buy AMD over Nvidia because of their more favorable attitude towards open-source, they are willingly sacrificing performance which sounds crazy to many here...

Still others in the Linux community would like to buy AMD but have no choice as AMD doesn't offer good openGL performance, so they buy Nvidia. Even Valve had no choice but to go with Nvidia on almost all the upcoming Steam machines.

Nvidia cards are not that glitchy I have had no issues... x.x
