I actually think it is a good change. Oli was starting to strain his vocals, so he really needed to stop screaming. Plus, he's no longer on K. He's a much better person, and truly happier. You can hear it in his voice, and see it in his behavior. I really like the old BMTH, but I really love the new BMTH. They nailed the singles (Happy Song, Throne, and True Friends), and I have yet to hear the rest of the album due to it not being available to me yet. I expect great things.

As far as it not being heavier, it is a great blend of a heavier style, with less strain on Oli's vocals, like I said. If I want heavier, I'll go Breaking Benjamin, Five Finger, or Killswitch Engage. All of which are featured in my Spotify playlist, and physical media collection. I own all of these four bands albums, listen to them all, and appreciate the lifestyle/band changes they've made over the years. I think with BMTH in particular that they are doing what they want, more so than what the fans want. I think this is a good thing. It means they aren't selling out to the public/media. They are doing what makes them happy, because in the end, this is they paycheck. This is their job, their source of fun and entertainment, and above all else, their passion.

EDIT: Became available about 11 minutes ago on the Google Play Store for me. Buying and will listen to it in the morning after my drivers exam.

 I prefer these bmth songs:

It never ends

Don't Go

Blessed with a curse

Suicide Season

The sadness will never end

Hospital for souls

Sleepwalking

Can you feel my heart

So, while them being "softer" isn't a bad thing for me the actual music has also changed which I don't particularly care for I guess.

I grew out of deathcore, so I absolutely love the new BMTH, each album is getting better and better. Can't say I miss Pray for Plagues, but I will say I miss Suicide Season.

It should probably be said up front that I'm not really a fan of BMTH's earlier work.

I personally didn''t care all that much for the album. While it did have some pretty good singles (especially Throne), the rest of the album wasn't all that good.

While the lyrics were pretty well written, I have no idea what went wrong with the music. It might have been on purpose, but to me it sounds like the instruments are just fading into one another.

And I don't really like that. I do like the instruments to be clear.

My main issue, however, is that with this new direction there are a bunch of new bands to compare them to, and they simple don't compare that well.

When you decide to play melodic rock, then you are also entering a scene where you are competing with bands like Within Temptation, Free Spirit, In Faith, Tango Down, Ten etc.

And I would say all of them has delivered better material than BMTH has this time around, so I don't really see a reason to listen to the album outside of the singles.

It's pretty good, It's a change from what I listen to when I listen to BMTH. I really like it though.

Too poppy, terrible mixing, no riffing outside of a few songs, electronics are too high in the mix.  What happened to this band?
