Hi All,

I wanted to find out if my minimum core speed was normal? I have got a Intel 5930k and I have it overclocked to 4.5ghz. I have stress tested it to make sure it is running fine and now changed to adaptive voltage. I am using a maximum voltage of 1.18v.

When the system is idling, it still seams to be using 1200mhz and 0.774v... which to me seams a lot!

Is there any way of reducing the minimum core speed? as my old 4770k used to idle at around 600-700mhz.

Clockspeed doesn't matter... If temperatures are low it doesn't matter one bit what speed it's running at.

Why would you want to lower it?  The 5930k is an extreme processor(correct me if Im wrong) so it's a big step up from the 4770k!  My new Cheeto clocks at 2.7 and OC's to 3.0 Ghz I'd highly recommend one

That is quite a high Idle speed!

Clockspeed doesn't matter... If temperatures are low it doesn't matter one bit what speed it's running at.

Surely the lower the clock speed the less voltage the system needs and therefore lower minimum temperatures.

Because I would be getting lower temps on the CPU at idle.

The 5960x is the extreme edition processor I believe. But it is a step up none the less from the 4770k.

Are your minimum temperatures problematic? What are they?

Even in the case of high minimum temperatures, say 45–50°C, the only real "problem" is that it suggests load temperatures will be very high. The CPU doesn't really have any issue idling at relatively high idle temperatures.

My CPU sits at 4.5 GHz all the time, and my idles are usually 28–30°C.

What temps are you getting?

Well its going to sound rather silly but the minimum temp is 34C. However this is in a custom loop so I am expecting to get in the high 20's, low 30's.

Thanks, it was exactly what I was going for :D

Well I am using adaptive voltage and my system power setting is balanced so it shouldn't be pinned at 4.5ghz all the time. I mean currently it is using 1.2ghz just idle.

You're not going to get exactly low 30's and the 34C is right where it should be sitting

Well I want to get the loop to be as cold as I can get it! I just thought that 1200mhz was a lot for it to idle at!
