Win10 gives old laptop 5Ghz wifi

eKKoj221

I have a 4 year old Sony Vaio 16" laptop

I just did a clean install of windows 10, and all of a sudden i had 5 Ghz support.

Never had that with win 7.

I even e-maild Sony about the possibility to upgrade from 2.4 ghz to 5 ghz, if i could chande the network card or something.

Turns out, all i needed was windows 10.

WHAT?

how is this possible?

I don't think it is, I would think its an issue in windows 10 that says you can use 5GHZ but your hardware will still be limited to 2.4GHZ.

What's the wireless chip in the Sony? Seriously doubt it would be 5ghz if 4+ years old

if you had upgraded your driver on windows 7 to the newest

it would have worked on 7 as well

most people only install whatever driver is on the manufacters website tho...and those ...are 99% of the time outta date
