Hey guys,

So, I was wondering if my 1.2TB Intel 750 Series NVMe (partitioned, 200GB for OS & 1TB) would be good enough for my boot drive?

I don't want a very long boot time, and I was wondering if this would suit my needs. My PC is to arrive within a week or so.

why do you need to partition it...

just leave it as one drive

your OS does not need to be separate from your programs and files

 

if youre spending $1000 on a SSD just for faster boot times then thats a waste of money

a SSD is for everything being faster, not just OS

It's not just for faster boot times, that's why I'm partitioning the drive

It's not just for faster boot times, that's why I'm partitioning the drive

theres no need to partition it...

you will get the same performance if you dont

I agree. I keep my OS and critical programs confined to my SSD and everything else is installed to a secondary hard drive. Even a laptop with something like a 750GB, I always partition it so the OS has it's own chunk. Makes life much simpler when things go wrong.

I only ever used 1 of the 2 partitions.

Please don't partition it.!

I admit it is nice to have 2 partitions some times, but most of the time it is a pain in the arse.

I always lose things with 2 partitions or 2 drives.

The partition you want to put stuff on is always slightly too small and the other drive is way to big.

 

If you want everything organized, just have 2 folders, one OS and the other stuff.

This NVMe drive should provide extremely good speeds and decrease loading and boot times significantly. Moreover, the whole system should feel much smoother and far more responsive. 
Regarding the partitioning, I like to have two separate partitions for the sole reason that if I need to reinstall the OS, I don't need to reformat the whole drive, back everything up to another drive and so on, but simply format the boot partition while everything else on the other partitions stays unchanged. All programs and games should still be reinstalled, but everything else (files, media, movies, photos, etc.) would be just as it is. :)
