New PC for Parents.

Go to solution Solved by TheGrim123321,

If you have an hdd, it would be nice to add it in. Also you could get g3258 to oc for 10 usd more, or an i3 for 40 more.

But i think this should do for your parents.

I'm gunna go with this but through out the SSD and throw in a 1TB Harddrive.

So my parents current PC is running a celeron with not even a gb of DDR2 ram. They complain about it all the time and asked me to build them a new one. The budget shouldn't go over $250 my parents are very cheep. I've checked and I don't see any of the parts being re-usable. I was thinking about getting a G3220 as it has decent on board graphics. That's the only part I've sorta decided on. The most intensive thing they will be doing is watching a video online. No gaming or anything like that.

They don't need an SSD, or anything good. They don't work on the computer or anything. They don't even get on Facebook. The most they will ever be doing is watchin a how to video on YouTube

$250 isn't going to really be enough. Get them to bump that up to $400

At the very least, get an SSD

:D. APU is probs overkill but will be good. Could always add another stick of ram but 4 should be plenty.

The PC is being used for YouTube videos and barely searching the web. 4GB is plenty for that. My parents don't even know what a SSD is. For $25 I'm sure it's plenty for a regular home PC that's only used for and such. It's not a waste. It's a fine home PC.

In your position i'd look for a SoC in ITX form factor and a SSD drive for boot... nothing more....you'll have all in once with a decent performance. Have a look at AMD as well, as I believe, has the best value per dollar when it comes to budget systems.

4GB is plenty.. You seem to neglect that fact that this is a basic PC and not a gaming PC. I never had a problem with chrome. I can play shadow of Mordor and have 10 tabs open in chrome with 8gbs of ram..

I'd still personally look at my build. It's $287 and the APU will, last longer then the locked pentium.

AMDs fine, especially for low end rigs there CPUs are great. The Athlon 860k APUs are going strong. For low end builds Atleast. There GPUs are wonderful now a days except, for the high end Fury X and low end ones. That APU will be worlds better.

well, his parents are not going to utilize all 4 cores the apu has,and in single core performance the pentium is better.

Also the l3 cache the pentium has is a plus for everyday tasks.
