Everything else seems good though I would look into getting a better board. An unlocked CPU with a H81 board is a little stupid mate, if you have no plans to overclock then you should have saved yourself a little money and bought a Core i7-4790 or even a Core i5-4690.

As far as I can see there's a ton of outflow in the case - maybe use an open-type of GPU cooler to take advantage of that? Reference blower is usually hotter, no?

idk but how about changing the gpu to asus or something else

I bought the card on release day and It was the only one left in stock.

an H81 board with a 4790K?

When I bought the processor I only had enough money left over for that motherboard, But if I would of got say a 4790, It would cost me another £270/$300 in the future to upgrade to a 4790K, Now all I have to do is upgrade to a Z97 motherboard in the near future which will be a much cheaper option.

I do plan on buying a Z97 in the near future but as i said in the previous quote i only had enough for that board at the time and wanted the option of overclocking in the future :)

I do want to buy the Hydro Series HG10 N970 but i don't think it's been released yet or at least it's not for sale anywhere that i can find.

I could but then that would mean i would need a new display to take advantage of the card

I simply inserted the CPU into the socket lol, It might be because of the BIOS version? You may have needed to put in another CPU which is compatible with the BIOS version you have and updated the BIOS before putting in the new CPU because I'm sure the older versions of the BIOS for this board don't have as wide of a range of support as the new one does.

time and money not spent correctly

the rma process was horrendus

There was a BIOS update for support for your CPU.

Support has been added since BIOS Version 0505

So if your BIOS version was below that, That would have been why.
