Nvidia 8600 Gts Review

Vegetable

Today on the test bench we have an 8600 Gts from Nvidia. It's the latest, it's the greatest, it's the 8600 Gts! It has all the latest tech including SLI and CUDA and supports GeForce Experience. It has a whopping 32 shader processing cores with an actual shader performance of 54 to power all the demanding titles at extreme resolutions including 800x600. It has an insane single slot cooler that includes a fan and some little heatsink that doesn't actually do anything! (seriously you put the fan on 100% and it screeches like a dying bird and runs exactly the same temperature as 30% fan under any load.)

GPU: post-192956-0-20020000-1441755180.jpg

Core: 675mhz

Memory: 1008mhz

Shader: 1450mhz

256mb Vram

Test system:

i5 4460

MSI B85M E45

16GB ADATA 1600mhz

Nvidia 8600 Gts 256mb (OEM cooler)

Thermaltake TR2 600w Bronze

NZXT S340 (white) with added 2x140mm intakes for maximum airflow

I decided doing the testing inside a case would give us the most realistic results as you guys won't be running your PC's on a test bench 24/7 when you game.

Results:

Heaven low 720p no AA: post-192956-0-03230100-1441755314.png

Valley low 720p no AA: post-192956-0-28907300-1441755323.png

Bioshock Infinite benchmark medium 720p: post-192956-0-55699100-1441755444.png

Pretty solid results. Your eyes see in 240p 24hz so these numbers mean nothing. These are 100% playable. But what if you overclock?

OC specs:

Core: 738mhz

Memory: 1152mhz

Shader: 1782mhz

OC results:

Heaven low 720p no AA: post-192956-0-29869900-1441755318.png

Valley low 720p no AA: post-192956-0-82512900-1441755326.png

Bioshock Infinite benchmark medium 720p: post-192956-0-85653800-1441755654.png

Conlusion:

The 8600 Gts is a solid card. It runs hot, and is loud as fuck. BUT it does actually overclock well and gets noticeable gains from doing so. It only needs a single 6 pin PCIe power connector so there's no cable clutter and it's single slot. If you SLI the performance to be had is ungodly and if you can afford the insane price tag, I recommend it. I give it 8/8 I r8 gr8 m8.

*Starts clapping*

My i5 6500 is bad and can't even maintain 4.5ghz, and 4.4ghz causes it to slowly become unstable over weeks with a vcore of 1.395. FML

I have the same card :P For some reason it fails to work with my 780i but the 6800 works like a charm, want to get it working thought cause it looks great and fits well with that board.

Yeah, buy something like a 9500 gt instead since it doesn't require a 6 pin PCIe connector, runs cooler, and has more VRAM.
