Most/best durable in ears

What are the most durable in ears? I was going to get some shures because they have attachable cables, but i heard that causes problems with durability (defeats the purpose)

Also different price points would be good, im expecting really epensive though,

region: Australia

so, people are going to scream at me for saying this.

my apple earbuds i got with my ipod touch lasted forever... (i sat on them and the cable went, RIP best earbuds i've had)

EDIT: should probably add pricing, just to set a comparison: the "new" earpods go for around $30 i believe, for "acceptable" sound quality.

they dont blow your socks off, but you REALLY dont hear the difference with something better in daily commute, where i used them.

The Sennheiser IE80's are great In-Ears and are built great. They go for around $290 USD on Amazon rightnow.

for me the cable of the old one was just a big no, the insulation was way too stretchy, so if you pulled, you were pulling copper.

the cable on the new ones is better tho, and they look a bit more waterproof.

?

somewhere in the past time they changed up the design of their earbuds.

the old ones are round, have a rubbery ring around the edge, and a length of rubber where the wire comes out.

the "new" ones are the "earpods" that are more shaped towards your ear, with only a small mesh to go right to your earhole.

---

the fact i call those "new" might say something about how much i follow apple products.

I was considering buying them again, and I might, but I think having a good $100 pair would do some for the quality of sound and durability

I recently bought a pair of Moxpad X3s and they're the best earphones I've had for the price. The modules are attached to the cables with tiny connectors, so instead of getting frayed earphone wires, the buds just come off. Literally the most sensibly-designed pair of IEMs I've owned. Wrap around your ear nicely, has a rubber-clad braided cable which doesn't tangle easily, and a 45° connector to boot. They are a bit bass-heavy, but if you use VLC and use the equalizer to tune them, they are amazing. And they don't feel nearly as cheap as you'd think, the earbuds are quite solid-feeling.

They're $20, people.

i got the earpods because i'm not too fond of having something in my ear canal (my ear canals actually get irritated pretty easily)

if you get those in-ear "plugs", specificly going for ones that are fully closed off on the outside, they should be pretty "water resistant"

over time wire (and connector) durability becomes a major concern tho.

Shures in ears are actually very durable. The cable connector thing was an issue when they first came out, and only for people that changed the cable all the time. Basically, as long as you aren't constantly plugging and unplugging the cable, you'll be totally fine. Just unplug the cable when you need to change cables and you'll be fine.

but you REALLY dont hear the difference with something better in daily commute, where i used them.

You REALLY will hear a difference with something better. The problem with the earpods is that they are open backed, so you don't get any isolation from ambient noise. If you've never tried something better, don't try to tell the OP that they won't hear a difference, because that isn't true at all. Not even close. If you don't know what you're talking about, why would you make a claim you can't substantiate?

What do you have to compare them against? (even higher priced sets)

The zero audio Carbo tenore are, to my ears, better sounding than the shure se215, but they're only $35. Only problem is that the cable would die in a few days if you aren't super careful with them like I am.

over time wire (and connector) durability becomes a major concern tho.

They're called "in ear monitors" not in ear plugs. If they don't have a tip on them and they sit just outside your ear canal, they're called earbuds, or, in the case of apple, earpods.

That durability concern over time is kind of silly. All audio products that are not used in a single location (e.g. A home setup) will have the same issues, so your point is pretty moot. It's just that you can easily get replacements for nicer cans.

As for water resistance, your best bet would be anything that uses balanced armature drivers. They don't need to be vented like dynamic drivers do, so you'll have a better experience with that. Also, as long as you're wearing them, your ear canal doesn't sweat, so you'll be fine for that. If they are out of your ears though, all bets are off.

"open backed" isnt a problem, its a choice i made on purpose, because my ear canals get irritated really easy if i put in plugs.

and i didnt come up with that out of the blue, i had a guy that deals with professional audio tell me that. i trust someone that'll spend several hundred euros on IEMs, and then uses his apple earbuds instead of those for convenience when on the go.

--

sidenote: what happened to hearing ambient noise being a good thing? i'd rather hear a car coming from behind the corner...

----

with "plugs" i was referring to the fact they close off your ear canal completely, and while you may have other ideas, around here everyone just calls them "plugs".

also, thank you for completely waving over a very valid argument about cables. trust me, i went trough A LOT of cables, i know my stuff on that point.

theres major differences between cable qualities on the market, and not all cables are applicable to the same scenarios.

it is right all equipment used "on the go" will get wear, but some stuff handles that wear better than other stuff.

well... not everyone has just wads upon wads of cash to toss at in-ears.

i know this person quite well, and i know he doesnt just plainly tosses money at things without comparing the cost and the benefit.

i'd also rather trust a professional DJ on audio advice than "just" a hobbyist.

I have less money than most to toss at audio. However, I waited a long time and saved up, so that I could buy one pair to last me for a very long time, rather than go through a bunch of pairs.

I had a pair of ATH-CKB50s for a while, which were a $50 pair of entry-level armature earphones. Pretty balanced and very good for the price. The Moxpads are bass cannons (or pistols in this case?) but are much better at EQ when adjusted. Much better. Provided of course you adjust them properly. I personally think they're terrific. better-sounding than, for instance, the Earpods (which for what they are, are quite good themselves).

I just listed them as an option, that's all. I think for the price they're a very competitive deal.

My Klipsch S4i Rugged in-ears have been through the washer and dryer twice. They still work as well as day one. They aren't the greatest sound wise, but that's not really why I bought them. They're also easily had for <$90 in the states so not sure what they would run on your side of the world.

EDIT: It's important to note that the in-line remote is pretty heavy on these.  They include a shirt clip that attaches to the cable. I also had to replace the tips with comply foam tips to make them work for me so there is that.

I was going to get them but you have to buy a seemingly scarcely available android cable, which I forgot to mention I require for my phone.

I actually agree that the apples are more comfortable and portable, but im willing to sacrifice a bit of that for more durable and higher quality in ears, its not like the make good open back buds like the design of the apple buds  -  but durable/good sounding..

the reason the "plugs" sound better than the earpods from apple is because the earpods dont have a "pressure seal" to directly feed the audio into your ears.

you'll understand what i mean if you're wearing headphones or earplugs right now: move them off/out your ears just barely enough to create a gap. sounds different right?

(other way around works as well, if you push the earpods against your ear canals)

but yeah, as said before, i didnt pick the pods straight for audio quality reasons, for me the comfort is VERY important, and may actually have a health benefit in the end.

I still like the portability - so easy to me and i used to them. and the shure wants recommended to me don't even have in line control without another cables :\.

Appreciate the info though.

I've been using MEElectric earbuds (I have an older version of the M9) for over 6 years now. 6 years of rugged use on trains and planes, they still work great. The M9 Classic has an MSRP of $9.99, worth trying out. I've also tried Beats in-ear buds, absolutely terrible, no comfortable tips and they hurt my ears physically.
