Today i went to RMA my board and got a new motherboard. I plugged in all my drives and booted the computer and it manage to boot straight into windows , i went to check if the version of windows is activated and it wasn't so I activated it manually. The weird thing is how did the computer manage to boot straight into the windows since it is a new board??? Although my drives does have windows installed. And since this is a new motherboard why can my OEM be activated again ( on a new board ) ??? Shouldn't I need to contact microsoft so i can activate?

How similar was the previous board compared to your current board?

It's possible it auto-detected your boot drive.

You don't need to contact MS. I took the w7 OEM CD that came with my dads dell, installed it, and used his sticker key on the back of the case, bam it works  :P

Whatever drivers you're using, re-install them. There's no need for any re-installing of Windows.

When you replace a motherboard like for like, if the OS was working before the previous board failed it is going to work with its replacement, straight out of the box.

This new motherboard , although its the same model , the BIOS is of a later version ( newer ).

I contacted microsoft and they said that I should reinstall cause it might be an issue with the board being unable to access the kernel since I did not re-install windows
