Hey guys. need a new laptop this year for college. narrowed it down to two options (but I'm open to new suggestions if you guys have any)

Option 1:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-U330p-13-3-Inch-Ultrabook-Orange/dp/B00MSOKD3A/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1441481844&sr=1-1&keywords=Lenovo+U330

Option 2:http://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Detachable-Laptop-Graphics-Windows/dp/B00NQY3VT4/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1441482229&sr=1-3&keywords=HP+Envy+x2+13.3%22

trying to decide the pros and cons of having a touch screen & SSD vs. double RAM and better CPU/battery life.

would love your guys input since I'm a bit stuck and cant really decide on my own. thanks.

Touch screen isn't that important for school use.

I would maintain these qualities

  • 8 Hour + Battery Life
  • A good keyboard
  • A good trackpad
  • 8GB of Ram
  • i3 At least
  • SSD

I am kinda scared of Lenovo's touch screen laptops, they make the hinges stiffer to keep the touch screen stable and it breaks easily.

Explain why Lenovo sucks, except that spyware scam.

Not all the laptop contain it afaik.

It's a great brand with huge number of laptops to choose from. And they are really good!

lol man.

Then you should put PERIOD after Lenovo.

When you say something like after comma it includes both.

I would look for something with a matte screen and a good battery life (8+ hours). The problem I see with the Lenovo is that it has a kind of semi-matte/semi-glossy screen due to the touchscreen feature, but only 105 cd/m², which is very low.

Maybe something with lower specs? I mean, why go for the best specs if you therefore get a screen that cannot be used outside and will probably struggle if you sit next to a window? ...I searched for some reviews/tests and there's German site, that does only laptop comparisons and they usually run battery tests for comparison with brightness set to 150 cd/m² in energy saving mode and the Lenovo wouldn't even reach that set to full brightness.

All I'm saying is, although you'll probably get the fastest laptop for your budget, you're probably not going to get the one that fits your needs best by buying the Lenovo.

The best thing I figured out for me is buying a refurbished business laptop, in my case a Dell Latitude. Sure they don't look as nice, but they are rock solid, the keyboard won't bend, they have a nice matte display that won't reflect any light, I've got a 9-cell battery that lasts over 9 hours in "office-mode" (wifi on, just typing, medium brightness, a bit off web search) and in case you have to/want to change RAM/HDD, clean the cooler, or whatever, it's all easy accessible.
