Defraggler

Kyzer

Is it as good as people say it is?

Windows says I got a 11% fragment and I have had long-ass loading times in BF4 (online). Hoping this will fix it. Can't afford to buy a program, but is this really the best free one?

But first, let's talk about parallel universes.

The one built into Windows is quite good (just don't defrag an SSD).

/You also don't have the greatest HDD for gaming, greens are a bit slow.

Defragging might help. But you're also using what I assume to be a 5400RPM drive. Which will be slow no matter what.

I got the green for the purpose of large storage, not for speed, it's fine for programs. Fine for all the games as well, as long as it's not BF4. Slow as hell. (1 minute load times is what it feels like, maybe longer)

But first, let's talk about parallel universes.

ugh, well I figured out why the game loading was so damn slow.

They're the most fragmented files on my entire hard drive.

I've used Defraggler but honestly I find the built-in Windows tool just as good.

For slow HDD, I recommend O&O defrag, where you do a full deep defrag (that is not just defragging, but also put files it accesses in order one after another, to reduce the read/write head from moving all over the place). It is a VERY time consuming process, but you don't do it on a daily basis, more like once after you setup everything and use the system a bit.

So the software isn't free, sadly, but there is a trial version which is all what you need.

Once installed and run. Click on the down arrow under the "play/start" button, and select COMPLETE/Access.

The process can take up 8h easily as it shift data all over the place. So I suggest to disable sleep, and let it run overnight. Then once done, you can just remove the software and reboot, and you should see visible performance increase already.

I prefer Smart Defrag over Defraggler. Faster and has SSD trim.

As for your loading problem, BF4 has been like that from beginning. Move it to your SSD (if you have one) and be amazed.
