SSD Takes a Long Time to Display Downloads Folder?

iamdarkyoshi

first things first: whoever says I have porn in there can win a big fat pile of

nothing.

I have windows 10. when I open my downloads folder, it takes more than 20 seconds to create a list of stuff. There are only 114 items in the downloads folder which honestly is not a whole lot. about 4GB of stuff. After it has been loaded and I close the explorer window and reopen it, it pops right up.

is it on the ssd itself. you can have all those folders like documents and so on, on any drive you want.

hmph. try going into device manager and right clicking and updating driver, could be very possible windows grabbed a wonky driver and it may be slowing the system down, guy on here earlier had some problem with slow ssd. new driver fixed his problem.

~snip~

Hey there iamdarkyoshi,

I would get a diagnostic tool from the manufacturer and check the health of the drive and if it's performing properly.
Cleaning up some junk files can also speed up the drive's performance so I'd do that from the built-in tool in the OS. You can also use some third-party applications. Do check the load on the drive while opening the folder and see if it's hitting 100% (or any other part while you are at it) or this is caused by something else. Do check for malware or any other unwanted software that might be slowing down the process.

Could be an optimization kind of problem.  I can't speak to Win10, but in Win7 I would try this - Win10 may be similar:

Right click on the problem folder and select Properties.

Go to the Customize tab

On the "Optimize this folder for" pulldown, try "General items."

Click OK.

That usually works for me.  Again, this is in Win7.  YMMV.

When you flirt with Death, you run the risk that Death has something more serious in mind.

Have had this in Win7.

I solved it by going into properties and moving the location (using tab pictured below), then moving back again.
