Are you after Peltier or that fridge thing or Liquid nitrogen?

Liquid Nitrogen is ridiculously safe if that's what you're talking about. They leave bottles of it beside the road in New York it's not dangerous.

As for fridge cooling, it's again not dangerous. The only way it's dangerous is if you drank fridge coolant. It's more dangerous to use aerosol deoderant.

Me personally im not a super poor, Make everything at home, Kinda guy. I just like making things than having to go and spend $500 bucks on something i can make for $50 Plus compressed gas unless flamable has no real danger to me for i have a fume house

the gas used in phase change units is compressed dichlorodifluoromethane

liquid nitrogen is not used in phase change systems

liquid nitrogen is only used for short term overclocking, you cannot run a computer for extended periods of time on LN2 because you need to store it at -196 degrees, its freaking expensive, and you need a constant supply of it

the only convenient way to refrigerate a computer at below 0 for daily use is with phase change cooling

you cannot make a phase change cooler yourself

you need special compressed gas, an expensive compressor, tubing insulators, an evaporator head, etc...

buying one already costs at least $600 usually more

and building one is not something you can easily make at home

what you CAN do is make a thermoelectric CPU cooler for a very low price (sub-$50)

this will not make your CPU go below 0C, but you will get below ambient temps, at least at idle, and load temps at least 10-20C lower than usual

all you need is a peltier element, which are very cheap, and connect that to your PSU

then put that between your CPU and CPU cooler, put some insulation to prevent condensation, and youre done

check out "thermoelectric cpu cooling" or "peltier cpu cooling" on youtube

lots of tutorials for that

but it doesnt even come close to what you get with phase change cooling

Well there is no reason you couldent go below 0, with enough cooling

Yes, HCFC. CHF2Cl They don't use that chemical you quoted any more (ozone problems amirite).

Trust me, I have a high standard of qualification in chemistry (in the UK, the one before degree level). I know what chemicals are used in fridges.

HCFCs are used in fridges and aerosols for their high volatility and their incredible safety. They are virtually unreactive (although they do breal down into chlorine radicals in the atmosphere, GG UV rays) and you can breathe them in with no damage. HCFCs are pretty fucking safe.

EDIT: You have just been outchemistried

Well there is no reason you couldent go below 0, with enough cooling

you would need to use a watercooliong loop with a heat exchanger and multiple peltier units, maybe even multi-stage peltier units

not something that will fit a $50 budget

sure....

this is what you need:

http://www.overclockers.com/build-your-own-phase-change-pc-cooling-system/

check if that fits within $50...probably not

I have an idea! i can take the junk out of a AC window cooler and put it into a pc! And if you didnt know i like to build things not buy them :)

you would need to cut the cold side radiator out, buy an evaporator head, reattach the tubing to the evaporator head, refill the system with gas, and recompress it

I have no idea how you would refill an air conditioner with compressed gas

or you could just use the cold air from the air conditioner to cool a heatsink/radiator

50 bucks? You're seriously underestimating the endeavor. There is no way you'll be able to make it spending less than buying a pre-made one would cost (unless you already own some parts?).

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

thats not how it works

you dont attach a air compressor to an AC system...

you need to BUY the gas to refill it after you have modded the tubing system

But i can make sealed tank with evaporator, and put some type of glycole liquid into it, like those used in cooling loop of cars.
This task don't require any phase-change loops knowledge, don't need to have tools for pipe work/brazing and freon tanks to work with. All cooling stuff is already assembled and ready to go in these a/c units

1) cars use a regular watercooling type loop, they do not use phase-change cooling

you cannot go below ambient temperature with a regular watercooling loop, doesnt matter what fluid you put in it

cars use a special fluid thats supposed to not freeze in winter, this is not the same as a phase change cooler

2)yes the AC units have everything you need but the way they are constructed is to cool air with a radiator

you cannot cool your CPU with a radiator

you would need to remove the radiator and replace it with an evaporator head, which involves cutting the tubing and reattaching it, as well as refilling the air conditioner with gas

3) building a regular watercooling loop would be much more feasible for you if you dont want to deal with tearing apart and refilling an air conditioner, BUT you will not get sub-0 temperatures with a watercooling loop (unless you do that peltier thing I talked about before)

I wouldn't mind building a Peltier cooler for my FX8350 but I know it's no easy task as you need to cool the thing with about 4 radiators depending on how cool you want to keep it lol.
