I have a hackintosh so I was wondering if it would make sense getting two of these 1 for windows, 1 for mac. I know its a budget SSD so will I see a difference between this and my dated stone age Samsung spinpoint HDD?

Literally any other SSD would be better. The V300 is a piece of crap as Kingston swapped out the NAND (or was it the controller....I think it was the NAND chips) on the SSD to cheap shit after the reviews were posted.

Obviously the only thing that would be installed on the SSDs is the operating systems themselves as well as some core applications. Im gonna buy a 1TB HDD to work with my 500GB one once I get enough money

I can't believe kingston is still allowed to market that with orginal specs. It's not worth it at all.

Pretty much any other SSD would be good.

EDIT: Sandisk SSD Plus for example. Better SSD and larger capacity

Nice, would I benefit from 120 on windows and 120 on mac or is 60 enough?

Yes. Yes it will work with Hackintosh. Yes.

Would choose another one though, bad things are said about those ones.

So basically the Kingston is shit?

Make sure your hard drive partition is compatible with the OS:

  • OSX reads but not writes to NTFS
  • Windows doesn't see OSX Extended partitions
  • exFAT is a good option but it's shit for hard drives.

To me, 120GB would be a bare minimum. I always recommend ~250GB SSD's for a computer that is going to see daily use. 60GB would be enough, but I wouldn't recommend it.

That particular one, yes. They made some revisions to it which cut it's performance down a lot.

It gives you more room. Not really necessary, but you could put something else on there too if you wanted. For only a few £ more, it's worth it.

I want two separate HDDs and SSDs for windows and mac. Im running them both of a single HDD and im not gonna make that mistake again!

There is a program called NTFS for Mac OSX by Paragon that allows OS X to read/write to NTFS devices.

Yes there is, for money.

$20 well spent, it's certainly better than having multiple HDDs for separate storage, and it's better than using exFAT, which is just a terrible idea on a drive which could lose power at any point.

But there's also this: http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-manually-enable-ntfs-read-and-write-in-os-x/

Having all your data stored in one place is better than two. It's easier to manage and keep track of all your data -- it makes finding things a lot easier since there is only one place to look and you don't have to worry about having access to certain files in Windows and others in OSX. Not to mention the cost of a second drive is probably more than the cost of Paragon.

At that price, you can get the Corsair Force LS 60GB model and it would stomp on the Kingston V300 series at this time.

In other words: NO, VERY MUCH NOT WORTH IT.

Ok in my situation right now I have one 500gb drive that houses both. Im planning on buying a 1TB HDD and using the 500GB I have now just for Mac. As well as buying two separate SSDs. One for Mac, one for Windows. In my situation am I better of just buying the program and just keeping using the original 500gb HDD for both operating systems?
