Is this a smart idea?

Khajiit Dealer

I bought a prebuilt (*gasp*) computer from Cyberpower about a week ago. Due to budget restrictions and my own inexperience, I purchased a "1,000 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Power Supply"

Ya, as you can see it was quite shady considering how there's literally no company listed on the PSU. Unfortunately, I had yet to browse this forum before purchasing this PSU.

There is a saving grace, however. My computer comes with a 1 year parts warranty. What I was thinking of doing is leaving this crap PSU in my computer during the warranty time and then proceeding to switch it out with a better PSU once the warranty expires. That way, I still have my warranty for a year since I'm not tampering with any parts. Is this a good idea or is there a possible way I could be screwed over by this? Thanks.

what if it blows up?

I'm fairly certain I would get a full replacement lol. Also I'm not concerned about setting my house on fire as I never leave my computer on (or running games) when I'm not on it.

Why did you get a 1000 psu and not just a lower better rated one

My knowledge of PSUs was...shaky to say the least. This forum has opened my eyes as I originally thought they weren't that important.

In retrospect, that's exactly what I should have done and I plan on doing once my warranty expires.

Im not to knowledgeable on psus but my best guess would be to leave it in if its under warrenty just keep good back ups online of your important stuff and let it be. Its not like using it will hurt the parts unless it goes tits up

It really depends on the PSU OEM or manufacture so its hard to say, does it not even have a label on it at all, do you have a photos of it?

My PC arrives on the 3rd and I plan on contacting Cyberpower today to see precisely which PSU they put in it. For now, I have no clue  :(

Here I think I found it on cyber power PC's site:

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/spec/getspec.aspx?n=POWERSUPPLY&v=1%2C000%20Watts%20-%20Standard%2080%20Plus%20Power%20Supply

The review of the unit itself:

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/02/23/raidmax_rx1000ae_1000w_power_supply_review/1#.VePsPPZVhBc

Overall I think you got lucky on this while not the best PSU out there isn't not as bad as some and considered a decent unit from a quick look over at the review.

Thank you very much for the help, but are you fairly sure that's the one I got? Mine is listed as "1,000 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Power Supply" and that one is 80 Plus Gold Certified?

I found this old post talking about them http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=23315

Thanks for doing research. It looks like the consensus is that it only slightly increases the chance of the system dying but it's not a deal breaker.

From the images at least it looks like the same unit with the fan grill and vent slits on the side, of course double check once you get the PC and see if it's the same model they put on the site.

It says "RAIDMAX 1000 WATT 80 PLUS POWER SUPPLY"

I couldn't find any PSUs that fit that description online other than Gold 80 Plus. If you found one, could you please link it? Thanks.
