I once bought a Gigabyte 450 GTS. Was always over 85 degrees Celsius, sometimes under load (C&C3 low settings 1600x900) it sits around 98-99 before it shutdowns the whole system. Opened the GPU cooler and saw that the copper heatsink wasn't even touching the GPU chip or even the thermal compound. Had to hammer it down on a flat surface then reattached it only to see it drop 15 degrees Celsius. I know it's not relevant to your problem but I thought it was an interesting story for you guys. You just reminded me when you said your room was an oven.
