I know that the idea of future proof tech is a total myth. I would like to know however if this would be a good idea? Next year withe my tax return I'll be able to buy a titan X. I could have bought one this year but got a 980ti instead. Would it be a better idea to break the bank buy the titan X and be good on the GPU side for the next 3 years? How long will the 12gb of DDR5 be more then enough to power the latest games? Could you see by the time the titan X is outdated there being tech to run seperate cards like the 980ti and titan X in SLI mode so the 12gb wouldn't totally go to waste? Finally should I be jumping on the skylake bandwagon as DDR4 is going to become the standard?

Just get another 980Ti if you can or wait for the Pascal architecture based GPUs to be released...

And no, if you can afford it get the i7-5820k over the 6700k skylake, it's better and also features DDR4.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

you also answered my questions!

so skylake is also for Z97 ,right?

OP better wait for new GPUs, 980ti is overkill for 1080p gaming for now! , my gtx 770 could last for another year with tweaked max settings on most games!

Skylake is for Z170 chipset, it's slightly newer but the X99 is an enthusiast grade platform and the i7-5820k has 2 more cores / 4 more threads than the 6700k It's simply more powerful, and with good cooling it also overclocks very well. Also it costs about the same as the 6700k. Why would you buy a worse CPU for the same money ^^

The 980Ti is the best gaming card on the market right now, it's definitely worth getting.

i5-4690k and i7-4790k mostly. The 5th gen cpu mentioned is for example i7-5775C but it's not worth considering.

It's not worth upgrading from the 4690k in my opinion. It's enough for now, you'll upgrade it when new CPUs come out in 3-4 years...
