Is it worth upgrading from GTX 780 Windforce 3x OC to GTX 970 G1 Gaming?

390X and 390 have lowered consumption and heatout IIRC - not by much but it's definitely not higher - it would require more connectors since GPUs usually have a decent amount of headrom - my card can draw 300W but only draws around 220W under max load.

You can make the same arguement for maxwell cards, although they obviously can draw more power...they don't unless you are torture testing.

the 980 and 970 can draw a max of 225W IIRC and some AiB cards can draw 300W - Kingpin, HoF and etc. The cards will usually draw about 180-190W under load - that's what all tests have shown.

Of course when you throw in high end oc'd cards they are going to use much more watts. But your typical card around 180w? That really isn't far off from the tdp rating. Nothing surprising there. I am done here. lol

Ok.. so a bit off the topic :) Final conclusion is.. get a better PSU and another 780? I've heard XFX psu's are awesome at this time?

You have a similar build to me, if you're only gaming at 1920x1080 and the current setup isn't failing then why are you looking to upgrade?

 

Having said that im upgrading to a 980ti soon just because i can not because i need to lol so unless you're going to take that big of a step up than just stick with the 780 in my opinion. 

 

My current setup isn't failing at all.. I just feel more safe with another 780 in there :) Thought 970 is better.. But now I see it's actually the same (if I ovc my  780 a bit)

XFX PSUs are SeaSonic rebrands but SeaSonic's support is better
