CPUxGPU bottleneck

Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

Technically, the 8320/8350 would be the "best". A lower end i5 (4460/4440) and a H81/H97 board would be a better option though. AM3+ is a dead socket.

hi!

i used to run my computer with a dual core phenom and an asus 6670 1gb and it was fine but i recently got an xfx r9 280 3gb and it runs at just slightly more frames.

obviously its my processor thats keeping my rig back but what would be the best processor on an AM3+ socket to run with that card??

im running

AMD Phenom x2 3.10 ghz

XFX R9 280 3GB

8GB Kinston hyperx DDR4

1TB Segate 7200 RPM

750WATT Corsair CX

thanks! :)  :)  :)

what does dead socket mean???

if you mean there are no new chips released for the socket, than so is LGA-1150

also H81/H97 is the chipset...

Forget the AMD upgrade.

Go for an i5 processor.

i5 4460 with H81/H97 combination. It's best.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

stop spreading lies

AMD has the most vluable intelectual property at it's disposal of any company

In some of the high end markets, sure. They have exclusive deals for console hardware (both current and next gen I believe) as well as good holds in the APU market for businesses. They're more than high end GPUs and CPUs.

No, I mean that it's so old and hasn't been updated for so long that it's irrelevant. 1150 is still relevant and has more current features, as well as some sort of upgrade path from his price point.

Yes, I know they are a chipsets. But if I said an LGA1150 board, I could mean any chipset that is on a board with an 1150 socket.

I'm not sure if you've looked at the news or the stock market lately but they've kinda jumped off a cliff.

AM3+ is a dead socket.

That's not exactly fair to suggest an h81 board and go on to say that AM3+ is a dead socket, both of them are.

I replied to the guy before, stating what I meant by dead socket. While there are no new CPUs for the 1150 socket, it is still relevant, with recent features and an upgrade path of sorts for OP.

Your post is only partially true/relevant up until lower end Skylake chipsets release, because then it's moot. Either way if you look at it objectively it's still a dead socket. It's just a better dead socket.
