Greasing Fan Bearings

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

Okay, just asking to see if you know something. I know oil is more common, just wondering WHY.

I think because it's already in liquid form and easier to apply. Squirt of oil, roll blades and you are done.

Hi,

Is it a good/bad idea to use machine grease on my PC fans?
- Why?

Why would you need to lubricate your fans ?

Because they make noise as stated below.

if they start producing noises you have to lube em. happens with old fans.

i did use machine grease  actually xD

Lol, how'd that Work for you? Didn't give a lot of effect for me, or maybe might've made it worse. Just clogged the damn hole with grease

Not really a need for it unless they're super loud

They're pretty loud at 1600rpm

Try lithium grease

Okay? Will look into it, but I'm just really looking for something available and cheap, don't wanna Invest in grease or oil for a fan on my PC   ONCE in a life-time thing haha.

Didn't know what else to call it lol

You use oil for fans, not grease. Get something light oil like for sawing machine. And you put it into small hole in the middle of fan motor.

Why?

Now I'm not sure if you are joking with me. Where you planned to slab that creamy grease?

Seems like even bicycle oil should do the trick. Besides, you live in wealthy country. There's sure to be some cheapo oild available in local hardware store.

Hahaha! What I meant is, why the oil, why not just this grease?

Yes I either drilled a hole to the bearings (if they didn't have the rubber cap), or removed the rubber cap and added grease into the hole in the middle of the fans, where the bearings are.

Some fans (Cooler Master Sicleflow) don't have those rubber caps <_<  <_< <_<  <_<  So I had to drill those.

Your fan, your decision. Just saying that oil is more common with PC components than grease.

well i dont give a crap about it, it works, and next time it will rattle, i will just clean it and do the same.

blower fan btw. if you have any oil for bike or something, id rather use that. grease is last resort and if you dont give a toss. and also, it doesnt leak.

oh and i used it for rifle bearing. for sleeve bearing use oil. actually for any other bearing better use oil xD

I saw a guy used Copper Grease in a Video.

He said it's good for that specific application.

hahahaha okay, will consider that. The no leak part is a good thing about grease lol.

Just thinking people don't use it because it's more expensive, and built for harsher applications? (car)
