Shattered cor vengence ram?

Firstly sorry if this is in the wrong place, i have no idea if it should be here, that ram area or the troubleshooting. Anyways, some corsair vengence ram sticks arrived today and the heat shield on one of the sticks was shattered. The ram still works, should i return it? They are the high profile ones

generally speaking when someone uses the word "shattered" in a description, then RMA is the first thing that comes to mind....

Its not for me. My ram has better timings anyways. Im surprised as nothing like this has ever happened to me before and the packaging had no issues.

you paid for the stick of ram, not ram and some shrappnel. RMA it.

How in the hell do you shatter a heat spreader?

I didnt, came like that on arrival.

I'd ignore it, simply because RMA times suck, it costs more gas to get to the shop than the ram slot is worth, the item works and doesn't really need the heat spreader unless overclocking heavily. think of the cost and think of the time it would take to do the RMA procedure, both of these are valuable, if you find a piece of junk heat spreader worth it, RMA it. if not then don't.

It is working fine now as you say but what will happen in time to come with a shattered heat spreader, we don't know. If it were me i would send that mess back pronto!

Its going to be at 1333mhz. Not like thats gonna cause hell.

I would love to take some as i would like to remember this however i just came back from my holiday where my mother dropped our camera in the dead sea. Short story shorter that thing is broke as hell.

Really it's up to you; you don't need to be asking us.  If you don't mind a damaged heatspreader (or the person it's for doesn't mind), then keep it.  If not, RMA it.  It's not up to us to tell you what your values are.

 

What do I think?  I think you received a damaged product.  It doesn't matter what's damaged or how functional it is; the product is damaged, and IMO you're entitled to exchange it for an undamaged item.  I'd try to get an exchange from the retailer first, there's no reason the retailer shouldn't allow an exchange.

I would return it to the retailer instead of RMAing it from Corsair. It will be much faster.
