So currently, I have an Acer Aspire E15(?) and the only thing that I don't like about it is the awful TN panel of 768p resolution. Looks like this:

Recently the Acer Chromebook 15 came out with a very similar chassis, especially display assembly, with a 1080p IPS display.

As well as many other E15 (and E5, they seem to be the same thing) models with 1080p panels - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-E15-Series.126905.0.html

What I was wondering was, could I take one of the 1080p display assemblies from one of those laptops (parts) and switch out the 768p display on mine with it? Or if it didn't fit, could I just switch out the panel itself? Would it be plug and play?

Has anyone here done a panel upgrade on their laptop before?

I have only removed and installed a panel with the same one, but in theory, if the connector is the same, it should be able to project an image. It should also fit the frame in length-width-thickness of course.

I would not suggest actually upgrading the display unless it is broken. It can be a pricy upgrade on some models.

Yup.

Say bye bye to warranty though.

It should work if they have same connectors.

You could ask your OEM for that.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

It isn't broken but it's just that 768p at 15.6" is annoying and the viewing angles are absolutely dreadful

well, it should work. RIP warranty though

Warranty was gone a long time ago when my friend gave me the laptop for free cause the charging port was broken and I soldered it back on myself, as well as upgrading the speakers and swapping out the drive for an SSD.

Ah, sure thing then.

Just get some information about your current display and the one you're going to switch to.

Problem is, I've been looking it up, and this is the display panel for mine

Whereas this is the one for the 1080p models

Looks like the mounting points (and connectors from what I can tell) are different.
