Two diffrent cards for streaming?

Hey everybody, so I previously had the Asus Strix GTX 960 and recently bought a 980 Ti Reference off a buddy for cheap. I use XSplit to record and stream my games.

now, I make YouTube videos and stream and i'm curious, is there a way to solely use the 980 ti for playing the games, and using the 960 to render videos, record, etc. so that it wont affect the 980ti at all? I know I can't use them in SLI but will the OS just know to offload the processing to the 960 if the 980 ti is the one plugged into the monitors and playing a game? maybe by putting the 960 in the top slot?

 

I havn't tried it yet because i'm waiting for my motherboard to get back from an RMA. any suggestions?:)

No. You could constantly replace the 980 with the 960 whenever you wanted to render videos, but that would be really really stupid.

 

 you cant sli 2 different gpus

sell the 960 and upgrade other parts of the PC, all you can do with it is to use it for PhysX but the 980Ti is more than enough itself.

I use obs to encode with my gpu instead of my cpu so maybe you could select the 960 to encode and play with the 980 ti? I dunno

I am a member of the PCMasterRace. I am terribly sad to announce that I own a PeasantStation 3 Super Slim. it's in a drawer away from my glorious PC.

whats your cpu? i've done some testing on streaming with GPU, and i've not really been impressed in the performance.

its a 4790k but I dont know how that fairs gaming AND streaming, i've heard GPU's handle it a lot easier. whats your experience?

You can use the 960 to render the stuff if Xsplit allows you too. The OS has nothing to do with it but if there is an option that says render device click the 960. Or in the Nvidia Control Panel set the main card for rendering the 960 and see if that works

its a 4790k but I dont know how that fairs gaming AND streaming, i've heard GPU's handle it a lot easier. whats your experience?

well, i have a 4790k (not overlocked) and i can squeeze 1080p30 into 1Mbit without much hassle.

 

although, when lots of things start to move, 720p30 should encode into 2Mbit pretty flawless while gaing.

 

EDIT: if i had an extra nvidia card i wasnt afraid of setting on fire i'd test the two gpu thing.

You can use the 960 to render the stuff if Xsplit allows you too. The OS has nothing to do with it but if there is an option that says render device click the 960. Or in the Nvidia Control Panel set the main card for rendering the 960 and see if that works

haha yeah I was too until I got a year of XSplit Premium for $25 on G2A.com. I just like the no-hassle, all-in-one. I appreciate that obs can really do anything but Its just too complicated and set up for problems. I've never had a problem with XSplit and Its really nice and easy to use. But i definitely wouldn't pay full price for that crap haha its like hundreds of dollars.
