"New" GPU

JoaoPRSousa

Helluh peeps :D

My GPU is in a bad-ish situation. A fan blade broke *facedesk* and I'm currently using it fanless with a 80mm fan near it.

I have some money and I'm hopefully going to buy a used GPU. I play at 1440x900, currently, but I want something ready for 1080p, since, hopefully, I will get a new monitor later down the road.

I have enough money to buy a used 7950. Though, there are many options, like 770s (more expensive tho). And please note that my CPU is not an i5 or something like that. It's an Athlon 760k (that runs like a champ), so bottlenecks *might* happen.

Lastly, I play, literaly everything, from GTA V to Crysis 1, BF3, CS:GO, TF2, Dirty Bomb, Skryim (without mods, I know) and much more...

Also, I'm not from the US, so don't go looking for GPUs in ebay and shiz.

Thanks for any help given :)

I'd do a 7950 if your PSU can handle it (which it probably will?)

According to this, it can.

The GTX 950 just dropped at around 160-170 and it's very powerful and a capable 900p and 1080p card however if you have the money I'd recommend stepping up to a 960 as some of them can be had for 190.

TBH I'm not that interested in new GPUs, since they are a bit overpriced in here (Portugal plz  -_-) and I can get something better than the 960 for less.

7870 or a 7950 will perform nicely. And even better once the new APIs roll out. The 950 will be left in the dust by even the GCN 1.0 cards. In fact, for that price point, you could probably find a used 7970 without too much effort.

I used the R9 280 if it matters :P

slightly o'clocked 7950

It probably does  ;)

So, is the 7950 good for 1080p, that's if I get a 1080p monitor.

I'm afraid my current resolution will bottleneck the GPU

Yeah your CPU will bottleneck your GPU in many CPU-bound games.

It won't be TOO big of a deal unless you play Planetside 2.

One more question. A 770 is about the same as the 7950. Is it better? Does it require less or more power? (because Nvidia)

What about the Sapphire r9 280X dual-X (3GB)? It is very good - supports 4k and DX12. It also comes in a Tri-X version if you can afford it - so if a fan broke you still have two more :D

EDIT: I'm in Spain and there is a good website called pccomponentes - see if that can deliver to portugal. (Might not have GPU I reccommended).

I've been using the Spanish version of PC part picker, have a look on that for GPUs - you can browse for individual components and it has a LOT of filters which is good.
